Field Trip: Noguchi Museum | New York, NY
Designed and curated by Japanese American sculptor Isamu Noguchi, the Noguchi Museum opened in 1985 as the first museum space in the US dedicated to a single artist's work. Housed in a former gas station and metal working factory, the museum strikes a delicate balance between art, design and architecture. The result is a wonderfully quiet and considered space to view the world's most extensive collection of his work, as Noguchi thought it should be seen. Located in an industrial area of Queens, away from the hustle and bustle of New York's museum mile, the Noguchi Museum can be difficult to get to (travel connections are slow and infrequent) but is well worth the trip.
